Dressing versus restoration
These get talked about as if they are the same service. They are not, and the difference is mostly how long the result lasts.
Trim dressings are the most commonly used chemical to make your vehicle's trim look new again. Most often they are water or oil based, and they are only made to last in dry conditions for an average of two to three weeks.

Why exterior trim fades in the first place
Over time, exterior plastic trim begins to fade, turn gray, or appear chalky. This is caused primarily by prolonged exposure to UV rays, heat cycles, road salt, and environmental contaminants.
Unlike painted surfaces, most exterior trim is made from textured or semi-porous plastic that is not naturally UV-stable, which leads to oxidation and color loss over time. Paint has a clear coat protecting it. Trim usually does not.

How we restore trim
Deep clean and decontaminate
Old dressings, wax residue, and embedded grime all have to come off first. A coating applied over a silicone dressing will not bond and will fail early.
Scrub and dry the texture
Textured plastic holds dirt in the grain. It gets agitated out and dried completely, because moisture in the texture also blocks bonding.
Mask the surrounding paint
Trim coatings will stain paint and glass if they get on them. Everything adjacent gets masked before a drop is applied.
Apply and level the coating
Applied evenly panel by panel and leveled so there is no high spot, blotching, or streaking left behind in the texture.
Cure before it sees water
The coating needs to cure before the vehicle gets wet. We will tell you how long to keep it dry when you pick it up.
Handle the rest while it is here

How much does trim restoration cost?
Trim coating is $100 and is added to an exterior detail. Price can vary with the amount and condition of the trim, so trucks and SUVs with heavy cladding and wheel arch trim may run higher. See exact pricing in online booking.
Should I just use a trim dressing instead?
If the trim is only slightly faded and you do not mind reapplying every two to three weeks, a dressing is a reasonable choice. If it is heavily faded, chalky, or striped in sections, a dressing will not fix it and a restoration coating will.
Will it work on trim that is already very faded?
Usually yes, and that is exactly the case restoration is for. Severely oxidized trim sometimes needs additional prep before coating. Send us photos and we will tell you what to expect before you book.
Can you do trim on a truck or SUV with a lot of cladding?
Yes. Trucks and SUVs are some of the best candidates because they have the most exposed plastic. Pricing reflects the additional surface area.
How do I take care of it afterward?
Wash normally, but avoid harsh degreasers and automatic car wash brushes on the trim. Do not apply a dressing over the coating, it will just sit on top and undo the clean look.
Can trim restoration be added to a detail?
Yes, it is available as an add-on to any full or express detail, and it is the most common time to have it done since the vehicle is already prepped and clean.
